Mommeh. I dun wanna go in dere. Yoo stoopid. I smash yoo.
~*~*~*~*~
Last night i got into bed, into a giant puddle of urine.
We know it was tesla. We took her temp immediately- normal.
She's acting fine.
Just, seems to have a UTI - or urinary track infection.
I feel awful, because i feel like i missed a sign somewhere.
I locked her in the ptu to stop her from going anywhere else in the house,
and took her to the clinic with me this morning. She will stay there
hopefully giving them a urine sample.
It's better for her to be there, where i can get food, water,
and a litter pan in her nice spacious cage, rather than being trapped in a ptu
all day long when i'm not there.
She will be spending the night tonight- and probably tomorrow night as well.
Until the results come back, and we can start medicating her,
and find out whether she'll use that box again or
associate it with some kind of problem.
Have any of you dealt with a cat with a uti before?
do they use their box again right after treated?
or will i have problems? i really hope we don't.
We'll see. Her dr. has already been contacted and is
aware of the situation. Right now,
all we can do is wait for the results.

let us get some things together here at home first!

It depends upon the cat. Some cats take a little retraining, others are great as soon as it's gone. We did nothing in particular with Chey but she started back in the box--of course she never went out of the box--she just strained a bit. My Orange Male was a different story. He would use the litter box now and then and then decide not to. No idea why. He wouldn't have an infection again but since the time he had the stone and the crystals he was never again good about the litter box.
With female cats, I don't recall hearing other clients having too many issues. The issues seemed to be with male cats more than females.
If she has a UTI, she may associate the painful urination with the litterbox itself, so the behaviorists our clinic work with recommend a couple of things (they also recommend this for inappropriate urination without a medical cause too)
Get a couple of litterboxes that look totally different than their usual boxes and put them in different locations that the usual boxes.
They recommend having one more box than you have cats; to have both open and closed boxes and to use unscented litter.
The least expensive way to go is to use clear plastic storage boxes, about the size you would store a folded up blanket in. Another cheap box is the large plastic trays that are used to mix cement in, places like home depot or lowes carry them and they are about $6.
That's wonderful news about the Sherwood Bunch. $300 is a lot of money. But vet bills are expensive.
We're sorry Tesla is sick and has to be locked up. We're sure she'll start going in her litter box again when she feels better.
Oh Tesla, I hope you feel better soon! I heard you talking back to your mom!
It was painful for me to potty when I had my bladder stones, but I still always used my box. We have been using a new litter on account of Harley's EGC (we wanted something dye and perfume free). So far, we are loving Feline Pine clumping. It's real soft and feels good under the paws.
Tesla, I am so sorry to hear that you are sick. Sometimes, it gets kind of rough on the CB and seems every time we turn around, someone else it sick.
You have the cutest little meow.
Tesla Honey, we is sorry you has to stay at the v-e-t. we hopes you feel better soon. None of us haf hadded a UTI, but gramma trixie did and she always used the box after. We agee wif Teri though, a change in boxes might be the best thing
Poor Tesla! We hope you are feeling better very soon. We're sending lots of purrs & hugs!!
We are purring for Tesla and all of you. Hang in there. ~S,S,C & F
Poor Tesla, we hope you feel better soon! UTIs are no fun...I had one once and it was HORRIBLE! Don't be scared, do what the vet tells you, and drink lots of water--you will be back to normal in no time!

We hope you get fixed up real soon, infections are no fun!
